During day 2 in Barcelona, I got to complete bucket list goal #434 Visit the Castle of Montjuic in Spain. Whilst at the castle I saw the views from the top of the castle which were magnificent. I also saw and felt with my own hands the stone structure which was beautiful in itself. My partner and I picnicked in the central foyer opposite the old well, as well as visited Montjuic's internal cafe, where we ate cold vegan soup (it was supposed to be cold apparently). There was absolutely nothing I could have faulted, not the architecture, not the history, not the food, nor the view, it was all absolutely magical and I wish I could go back.
While at the castle I sat for a moment and tried to visualise and experience what it must have been like working and living at the castle, either as a soldier, a captain, or even a prisoner. It felt rather surreal. I loved doing that mental experiment as it worked as a reminder and as a way to ground myself in a foundation of gratitude for the era I live in and the freedom that I get to exercise and experience. I loved every minute of being there and I thank Barcelona for the time that I had and the memories I got to make at the Castle of Montjuic.
