Become an Early Riser (Long Term Goal - Part 2)

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

It's now been 8 days since I first started off on this journey towards becoming an early riser in order to become more productive, more hard working and to gain extra time in my day. Having had the extra time in the morning I've also been able to work on other habits that I've been wanting to progress on, one of which is reading first thing in the morning. Being able to have that time to sit and just concentrate on what I'm reading and spending a good amount of time doing it. Truly having the time to enjoy it and immerse myself into the story and the words that I am reading. I am also finding that I have the ability to have a slower morning and not to feel rushed to get ready for work, which feels absolutely great.

I've been waking up refreshed and ready, however, I seem to find that after lunch I accidentally fall asleep. Now, I don't quite know if this is because my body is adjusting to a new routine, a new schedule, or whether it's because I am going late to bed and not getting quite the right amount of sleep that my body needs. I feel that it's best for me to start going to bed earlier in order to avoid that midday sluggishness. However, the issue with this is that I suffer a little bit of heart burn thanks to my IBS, which means that I can't go to sleep until 2 hours after I've had my last meal of the day. This tends to help prevent the stomach acid come up into my esophagus and causing me pain due to resting while digesting. Which means that I will also have to start working on having an earlier dinner. Which, to be fair, doesn't really sound like too much of an issue. Hopefully, going to bed earlier will make this journey that bit easier. Saying this, a quick 10 minute nap around 2pm isn't a huge deal, but, the fact that I started this challenge with the desire to gain extra time this kind of defeats the point.

This is the part in the post where I remind myself exactly why I started out on this adventure in the first place. The answer to this is rather simple. I've wasted a lot of time in my life so far, and I am currently on the hunt to gain back lost time. I obviously understand that lost time is lost time and as Benjamin Franklin once put it, "lost time can never be found again". However, I can learn from my mistakes and try to do the best with the time that I do have. That being, learning to wake up bright and early and get on with the hard stuff so that I have more time to enjoy the fun stuff later. This also means that the sooner that I put my ass in gear and start working harder, the sooner I can get to the point in my career where I can turn my hobby into my number one form of income, making my life nothing but a playground. Also, by doing this I get the extra benefits that seem to come with waking up early, that being that I become more motivated, more productive, and according to Benji Franky, healthier and wiser as well. Bring it on!
